Crash closes lanes on I-85 North in Mecklenburg County

The closure and traffic backup began with a serious crash on Sunday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — All lanes of I-85 North were closed near Exit 40 in Charlotte after a crash on Sunday. 

The crash happened around 1 p.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. One person was seriously injured in the crash, according to Medic.

All lanes were closed in the area for around three hours because of the crash. The road reopened just before 4 p.m.

WCNC Charlotte's crew on the scene noticed a car on its roof in the middle of the road.
