KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Kings Mountains Police conducted a joint search operation Friday for a woman who disappeared three years ago.
Crews searched for Angela Burris in a wooded area of Gaston County. Burris was 36 years old at the time of her disappearance.
Kings Mountain Police Chief Gerald Childress said a lead brought them to a wooded area off a private road near Crowders Mountain State Park. Dozens of people searched roughly 20 acres for Burris.
Childress said since she's gone missing, the department has remained vigilant for any answers.
“Miss Burris is always on our minds,” he said.
Police said she was last seen getting into a black passenger car near her home on Lake Montonia Road in Kings Mountain when she went missing in April 2021. She was never seen again.
Burris' family reported her missing.
“Since that time, we have been diligently trying to follow up on any leads that come up,” said Childress.
The lead Childress said his department got prompted them to search the area with several other agencies. While Burris hasn't been heard from in more than three years, time has brought on some new tools that could help get them answers.
“Technology changes over time -- and we were able to develop some pinpoint areas, potentially her last known location and that was the area of focus,” he said.
40 - 50 team members were on the ground Friday. But after several hours, nothing was turned up.
“Unfortunately, we cannot tell you today that we recovered any human remains,” said Childress.
“We’re looking at every angle that we can from this," said Capt. Lance Hamrick. "When the searchers came back, they said they turned over every leaf in this area."
Kings Mountain Police noted this is still a missing person investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department.
“To provide closure for this family and to this investigation is a priority for us,” said Childress.
