CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Acting Superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Ann Clark says the District is functioning normally after the sudden departure of Dr. Heath Morrison.
"I absolutely love what I am doing," Clark said during her first meeting with reporters since Morrison's sudden departure.
Clark, who was the Deputy Superintendent, was appointed on an interim basis after Morrison said he was stepping down to spend more time with his sick mother.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Morrison resigned after an investigation by the school system's legal department found he had misled the school board about some construction costs and had belittled and berated some staff members.
Clark who was one of the finalists who lost out when Morrison was hired, was asked if she would apply again.
"I'll be honest. I've really not had the opportunity to sort of hit the pause on the day to day operations of the district in the last three weeks to really be thoughtful about what the next step is in my leadership journey. Nor have I had a chance to talk to the Board," she said.
She said her focus now is on student achievement and restoring public confidence.
She said by now the public should know where she stands.
"They know how committed I am, and they have seen me pour myself into this district for 31 years, and they know that I'm about every child, every day, for a better tomorrow."
The School Board has not yet discussed or decided any details about selecting a new superintendent.
