Anson County lieutenant dies after serving community for nearly three decades

"Lt. Wilhoit faithfully served the citizens of Anson County for the past 28 years," the sheriff's office said in a post on Facebook.

ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — The Anson County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of their own. The sheriff's office confirmed Lieutenant Tracy Wilhoit has died.

Wilhoit started his career as a detention officer at the Anson County Jail, before eventually becoming a patrol deputy. He was later promoted to shift sergeant, then moved into the sheriff's office civil division where he ultimately became a lieutenant. 

"Lt. Wilhoit faithfully served the citizens of Anson County for the past 28 years," the sheriff's office said in a post on Facebook. "Please join Sheriff Howell in prayer for the family during this very difficult time along with the staff of the Anson County Sheriff's Office."

Further details about his death or any funeral arrangements have not been released at this time.
