4 hospitalized from overnight apartment fire in southeast Charlotte

Firefighters responded to the blaze just before 3 a.m. at an apartment complex along Wallace Road.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Fire Department battled a large apartment fire in southeast Charlotte that sent four people to the hospital early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters responded to the blaze just before 3 a.m. at an apartment complex along Wallace Road, which is off Independence Boulevard. About 30 minutes later, firefighters struck a second alarm.

Two people were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, and two more were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Medic.

Firefighters were able to control the blaze within about 50 minutes. Fire officials told WCNC Charlotte eight people were rescued from the building. 

Officials did not immediately determine the cause of the fire.

This is the latest in several fires the Charlotte Fire Department responded to in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday morning, firefighters responded to a fire at Calvary Church on Pineville-Matthews Road Tuesday afternoon. One person was taken to the hospital following the blaze.

Just hours before, crews responded to a fire at a home in south Charlotte, where a firefighter was hospitalized after a ceiling collapse.
