MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — With warmer weather just a few months away, many people are looking for a summer job. If you've ever considered becoming a lifeguard, now is the time to apply.
Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation is hiring lifeguards for several locations around the county.
No experience is necessary and new hires will be given free uniforms and training. Applicants must be 16 years old to apply.
The starting pay for the job is $20.40 an hour.
Michael Johnson, the Senior Aquatics Supervisor for Mecklenburg County, says this summer they are looking to fill at least 125 lifeguard positions.
"Drowning prevention is a huge thing for us, and we want to make sure our lifeguards are trained properly in the right way. So we spend a lot of time on training because we want to make sure our staff is over prepared for a water or land based emergency," Johnson explained.
He says anyone interested just has to fill out an application listing their availability, take a swim test, go through a paid training session and shadow one of their lifeguards.
