Ashe County officials seeking public cooperation in potential cell phone tower scam

Officials believe that there could be many potential victims affected by this scam.

JEFFERSON, N.C. — The Ashe County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help concerning a potential cell phone tower scam that may have affected many citizens in the county.

Officials believe that many people may have fallen victim to the scam by sending money in exchange for cell phone tower placement, dead searches, or consultant fees.

The county is asking anyone who believes they may have fallen victim to this scam to come forward with the following information:

  1. 1. Contract or signed documents
  2. 2. Bank statement or documentation of online transactions paid, such as Venmo or Paypal
  3. 3. All property locations in question, including parcels or address
  4. 4. Communication asking for or promising money
  5. 5. Important communication between parties about property
  6. 6. Contact information for others who have sent money

Officials are asking everyone who may have been a victim of this scam to download and complete these forms. The forms can also be picked up at the Ashe County Sheriff's Office.

Once completed, the forms and documentation should be dropped off on the 2nd floor of the sheriff's office at 140 Law Enforcement Drive in Jefferson.
