North Charlotte shooting suspect face attempted murder charge

The shooting happened on Hewitt Drive on Friday, Feb. 16.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Multiple charges have been filed against a man accused in a north Charlotte shooting.

Jontrey Thompson, 18, was arrested on Wednesday for a shooting on Feb. 16 on Hewitt Drive, near W Sugar Creek Road. Thompson is charged with one count of attempted murder, six counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and one count of discharging a weapon according to court records.

Medic said that one person suffered life-threatening injuries in the shooting on Hewitt Drive on Feb. 16.

The arrest warrant for Thompson says that the shooting was done with a rifle. 

Thompson had his first appearance hearing in Mecklenburg County court on Thursday. He was given a $600,000 bond and was ordered to not have any contact with the victims or return to the shooting site.

Thompson's next court date is March 19, according to records.
