CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte sports fans will continue to have two of the Queen City's most anticipated games.
Tepper Sports & Entertainment and the Charlotte Sports Foundation announced Tuesday that the partnership to host events at Bank of America Stadium has been extended.
The agreement includes the rights to host the Duke's Mayo Bowl and Duke's Mayo Classic college football games. Charlotte has hosted the contest since its inception in 2002 when it was known as the Continental Tire Bowl.
“The Charlotte Sports Foundation is excited to build on our already strong partnership with Tepper Sports & Entertainment. The support we receive from their entire organization is invaluable and we look forward to hosting more high-profile events at Bank of America Stadium in the coming years,” Johnny Harris and Andrea Smith, CSF Board of Directors co-chairs, said in a release.
The number of years included in the agreement was not made available.
Bank of America Stadium has hosted the Duke's Mayo Classic since 2015, with the most recent contest being held on Sept. 2 when UNC defeated South Carolina 31-17. The game has hosted schools from the Carolinas every year except for 2018, when West Virginia defeated Tennesee.
The most recent edition of the Duke's Mayo Bowl saw Maryland defeat NC State 16-12. The game typically matches teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Southeastern Conference (SEC).
