Beware of phone scam pretending to be with the York County Sheriff's Office, deputies say

The sheriff's office said no one with the last name Watters works there.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The York County Sheriff's Office is asking people to beware of a phone scam pretending to be someone from the sheriff's office.

Deputies are warning residents about a call from Captian Erick Watters, asking people to pay $2,000 for a warrant or bond.

The sheriff's office said no one with the last name Watters works with it.

People are encouraged to hang up and report any calls, texts or emails they receive related to this.
