Carolina Panthers file for practice field, parking lot changes

The zoning petition was filed on Nov. 2 with the city of Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Changes to the Carolina Panthers' Uptown practice facility could be on the way after the team filed a zoning petition last week.

Tepper Sports & Entertainment, the entity that owns the Panthers, filed the petition with the city of Charlotte on Nov. 2.

The petition calls for "additional outdoor practice fields" and the relocation of the existing parking area near Cedar Street to a location "farther internal to the site" in the southeast part of the facility near the railroad.

The indoor practice facility is located between Cedar Street and Bank of America Stadium. It was built in 2019.

City documents say the zoning request is in the "rezoning review" period of its process. Officials say the review takes around 15 business days and will not need to go through the city council.

"As property owners, the city signed off on the TSE permits and is supportive of TSE’s administrative process," the city of Charlotte said in a statement.

Tepper Sports has not responded to a request for comment from WCNC Charlotte on the zoning petition.

Changes could also be on the way for Bank of America Stadium. An existing food and drink tax in Mecklenburg County was extended to exist until 2060 in session laws passed by the North Carolina General Assembly in October. The revenue from this tax partially is used to fund renovations to the stadium. David Tepper, the owner of the Carolina Panthers, has previously said he would be interested in renovating the stadium if state funding was secured.
