Carowinds' parent company sued in Mecklenburg County over waterslide incident

An Iredell County woman's lawsuit claims she was knocked unconscious after hitting her head on the Boogie Board Racer waterslide in June.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carowinds' parent company is facing a lawsuit in Mecklenburg County after a woman claimed she was knocked unconscious on a waterslide at Carowinds

According to documents obtained by WCNC Charlotte, the Iredell County woman says she was knocked unconscious after hitting her head at a high rate of speed on the Boogie Board Racer waterslide on June 7. The lawsuit also alleges several others were hurt on the ride and claims Carowinds hasn't fixed it.

The lawsuit claims the woman's injuries were caused by "dangerous, inadequate and unreasonably low vertical clearance" between the surface of the slide and the Boogie Board Racer tunnel, which caused her to hit her head when she lifted out of the rushing water.

WCNC Charlotte reached out to Carowinds for a response but hasn't heard back as of publication.
