If there's a tree in Charlotte that is special to you, maybe it deserves an award!

The City of Charlotte is accepting nominations for the 2024 Crown Tree Awards.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Are you a nature enthusiast or do you know someone who is? 

The City of Charlotte is taking nominations for the 2024 Crown Tree Awards, a celebration of Charlotte's urban forest and those who work diligently to protect it.

The Crown Tree Awards will be given out for the following four categories:

  1. Mayor's Tree of the Year: Submit a picture of your favorite tree and Mayor Vi Lyles will select the winner.
  2. Spirit of the Tree: Do you have a special tree in your life? Submit a picture and the story behind it that captures the special relationship between nature and humans.
  3. Corporate Friend of the Urban Forest: This award will go to a local company that is committed to protecting Charlotte's urban forest
  4. Proud Partner of the Canopy: This award is dedicated to an educator, community partner or civic institution that is dedicated to promoting Charlotte's tree canopy.

Nominations are due by Jan. 31. You can submit nominations for the 2024 Crown Tree Awards here.

The awards, which are given on behalf of the mayor and Charlotte City Council and managed by the Charlotte Tree Advisory Commission (CTAC), will be given out in April. Winners receive a locally sourced wood plaque and certificate.
