Combining love for coffee and giving back | Charlotte Coffee Club helps build community

This club is connecting the Queen City over coffee while giving back and serving the homeless.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Making new friends in the charlotte area just got a whole lot easier. The Queen City welcomes a new social group: The Charlotte Coffee Club. Beyond just connecting the community over a cup of coffee, it’s helping give back to those in need.

Coffee can mean a lot of things for a lot of people, but in this case, it means connection. Phill Reed, is the co-founder for the club and said they started it this year.

"It started in January and we were only 12 members in June. We grew to 51. Last month, we had about 200 and we expected to have about the same for this month,” he said, adding, "We could combine the love for coffee and the will to give back to start something.”

The club has really picked up steam and is different than what any other the city has to offer.

“We want to build community outside of alcohol so we can feel like we're actually building genuine and true connections and we're serving other people, so it's less about ourselves and more about community," he said.

But it’s just not about the coffee. Every month, the group meets up over Coffee-Connect then, gives back.

“We just do various service projects. So we go uptown to serve bagels, coffee and clothes to the homeless. Then, we'll build about 500 sandwiches for Roof Above,” Reed said.

Giving back is a key reason Sarah Dickey joined the group of coffee.

“I just want to give back to people who are living in my community,” she said.

A group that’s growing with a city they call home. Dickey added, “all these people who might not even know a single person here, coming in and meeting people and getting to do something good together.”

The Charlotte Coffee Club is scheduled to have their next meetup on Sept. 14th. Click here to learn more.
