Family escapes large home blaze thanks to smoke detectors

Two adults and one child were displaced.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters extinguished a large house fire on Sunday morning in west Charlotte.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. at a home on Bullard St. When Charlotte firefighters got there, the house was engulfed in flames.

About 30 Charlotte firefighters controlled the fire, which started on the front porch, in 23 minutes.

One patient was evaluated and released by EMS. Charlotte Fire said the residents were able to safely evacuate the house, because they had working smoke alarms.

Two adults and one child were displaced.

Investigators said the fire was caused by "improperly discarded smoking materials."
