CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will offer free rides this weekend in honor of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks' birthday, the agency announced.
All CATS services will be free on Saturday and Sunday in honor of Transit Equity Day, which falls on what would've been Parks' 111th birthday.
"Rosa Parks’ courageous act of defiance, against segregation and discrimination, was a historically significant moment in the fight for equal treatment for Black Americans," CATS said in news release. "Transit Equity Day serves as a lasting way to commemorate her legacy in creating fair and equitable transit across the nation."
Charlotte residents with questions about CATS schedules and services can contact customer service at 704-336-RIDE.
