CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead after an apartment fire early Friday morning, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.
At around 5:30 a.m. Friday morning, Charlotte Fire responded to a call about smoke odor at an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Frontenac Avenue in east Charlotte.
Once firefighters arrived at the apartment complex, they saw signs of an extinguished fire in one of the apartments. They rescued a person in the apartment who was suffering from serious injuries and attempted CPR.
Unfortunately, the person died at the scene.
Investigators at the scene of the fire determined that the fire started because of careless smoking. Charlotte Fire is uncertain whether the apartment's fire alarms were working properly.
Only one apartment was affected and the fire extinguished on its own.
