Charlotte Motor Speedway opens campground for Tropical Storm Debby evacuees

The campground opened on Wednesday at 12 p.m.

CONCORD, N.C. — Charlotte Motor Speedway is creating options for people evacuating their homes ahead of Tropical Storm Debby.

The speedway's campgrounds will be open for evacuees seeking shelter from the storm, which is expected to heavy rain and flooding across the Carolinas. The campgrounds were open on Wednesday at 12 p.m. and will be open as long as possible.

The speedway's campgrounds are located near the speedway, which is just near Exit 49 off of I-85.

Evacuees are asked to check in at the Camping World Racing Resort at 6600 Bruton Smith Blvd. The resort can be accessed at the entrance of zMAX Dragway. People who arrive after hours can park near the camping office and check in during regular business hours.

Bathhouse facilities will be accessible.
