Home possibly hit by lightning, Charlotte firefighters say

The home had visible damage to the chimney.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A lightning strike may have caused a fire to break out at a south Charlotte home.

The Charlotte Fire Department said 30 firefighters responded to a home along Huntcliff Drive off Carmel Road at 4:25 a.m. Thursday. Crews were able to douse the flames within 20 minutes.

Firefighters said lightning appeared to have struck the chimney, which was visibly damaged.

Nobody was hurt, and the department said the fire caused about $90,000 worth of damage.
