CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Waiting for the bus can be a hassle, especially for some standing at insufficiently improved stops.
"There's no windows, there's actually no seats," said a bus rider, Jeffrey Phifer.
Phifer said these conditions matter the most to those waiting for a ride.
"Certain bus stops aren’t looking up to part," said Phifer.
Some riders living in the Beatties Ford area say it's a pretty common issue.
"Not only are you sometimes left with no where to sit, sometimes you are standing out there waiting on the bus in the rain with no shelter," said another bus rider.
"This impacts children also and the older people too, so sometimes I let them sit but there is just not enough room," a rider said.
WCNC Charlotte took these concerns to city leaders who say CATS is currently in the middle of making improvements to 30 stops.
They said their first order included things like 25 new shelters and 10 standalone benches.
CATS said they also have another 60 stops under design for future ADA improvements and plans to purchase additional amenities to install once they've been built out.
"That plays a big part," another bus rider told WCNC Charlotte.
CATS said they’re hoping to have those all those improvement plans constructed by the end of the year.
Beatties Ford Road has been included in the improvement plan.
Right now, improvements are planned for Beatties Ford Rd. & Montgomery Gardens Dr., Beatties Ford Rd. & Sunset Rd. and Beatties Ford Rd & Hamilton Circle.
CATS leaders say more stops could be included for future improvements.
