CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte's new law school just got accreditation from the American Bar Association and said it will start accepting applicants for the fall term.
The Elon University School of Law announced plans last year for opening an extension in Charlotte. This will make it the only law school in the city once the location is open in the South End neighborhood.
ABA approval means the Elon program is officially allowed to extend admission offers to its first class in August.
Only 35 students will be enrolled in the first class of the Elon Law Flex Program, the school said.
The program is built to be part-time and flexible, offering classes in the evening hours for those who work other jobs while pursuing a law degree. It's designed to be completed in four years.
Charlotte is the largest city in the country without a law school and this program offers opportunities that haven’t been available for a long time.
Charlotte used to have a law school, the Charlotte School of Law, however, it was permanently shuttered in 2017 after losing ABA accreditation.
