Local restaurants get much-needed boost with Charlotte's restaurant week

Many restaurants see fewer sales in the summer and continue to grapple with rising costs of food.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte’s restaurant week has officially wrapped up and one business says it's been a much-needed success.

The Queen’s Feast is always a good way for people to try new restaurants, but it's also a way restaurants can seek solutions for slower sales in the summer.

The 10 days of deals helped more than 100 restaurants in the Charlotte area see a surge in customers. The extra business is especially needed right now as inflation continues to impact food costs.

Cajun Queen in the Elizabeth neighborhood is closing out the eventful week feeling like royalty.

"Some nights can get kinda hectic, but, you know, running out of tables -- not the worst thing in the world," assistant manager Melissa Weikel said with a smile.

She added she is grateful for the boost in business during the slower summer months. "It seems like once the kids get out of school, a lot of people are vacationing. So these summer months, we do experience sort of a lull," said Weikel.

On top of a summer slow, Weikel said inflation is still impacting many restaurants, including Cajun Queen.

Thankfully, the longtime restaurant drew in crowds of people to enjoy a three-course meal and drink for $45. Reservations filled up fast, which helped guests fill up on food and workers fill their wallets.

There will be another restaurant week in January, which is also a notoriously slow month for the restaurant industry.
