CHESTER, S.C. — A Chester High School student was arrested on Thursday after law enforcement officers found a gun and ammunition in their book bag.
The Chester County School District received reports that a student was carrying a gun on campus, the school district said, and officials immediately confirmed that the reports were true.
A 14-year-old student was arrested.
"Upon reports of a student displaying a single bullet to their classmates, school officials at Chester High School located one firearm and one magazine in a student’s book bag during dismissal time," the Chester County Sheriff's Office said.
There was no direct threat against any student or staff member on campus, according to the school district. Additionally, the district said no one was harmed when the student was arrested.
"We understand that incidents like these are distressing to all students, staff and parents. CCSD and Chester High School are taking every necessary step to ensure the continued safety of our school community," school district officials said in a statement.
The school said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement partners during their investigation.
The student was charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds and minor possession of a firearm.
