CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — Chesterfield County Sheriff Cambo Streater is under investigation by the state of South Carolina for allege misconduct, officials said Thursday.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) confirmed it was looking into allegations of misconduct against Streater, telling WCNC Charlotte is investigation is active and ongoing. No further details could be shared, according to a spokesperson for SLED.
The investigation comes less than a month after three Chesterfield County deputies were arrested for allegedly creating fake emergency calls. According to SLED, the deputies made five hoax calls in early February while on duty. All of the fake incidents were reported at convenience stores and caused multiple law enforcement agencies to respond to claims of a dead body.
The deputies were charged with misconduct in office, aggravated breach of peace and criminal conspiracy.
It's unclear if the investigation into Streater is linked to those incidents. Streater said at the time that his department was cooperating with state investigators.
