Child burned on 25% of the body after fire began in bathroom, Charlotte Fire says

Crews on the scene confirmed the child was taken to a hospital for treatment.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 10-year-old child went to the hospital after firefighters said a small fire broke out in an east Charlotte home Friday night.

Charlotte Fire confirmed they responded to a home along Laurel Spring Drive around 10 p.m. The fire was in a bathroom and was handled by crews who arrived.

Firefighters on the scene told WCNC Charlotte a child was severely burned, with about 25% of the child's body affected. Crews said the child was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The department said the child was playing with a lighter when the fire started.
