Child critically injured after being hit by car in Boone, police say

The child was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem in critical condition.

BOONE, N.C. — A child is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle while crossing a road in Boone on Wednesday, police said. 

Multiple crews responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on Blowing Rock Road near Durham Park a few minutes before 7:30 p.m. Boone Police determined that a parent and child were crossing the road when they were hit by a vehicle.

The child was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem in critical condition. An update on the parent's condition hasn't been given by police at this time. 

No charges have been filed in connection with this incident but the investigation remains active, according to Boone police. The Appalachian State University Police Department assisted with the immediate investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Boone police immediately.
