CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Truist Field, home of the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, the Charlotte Knights baseball team, has been transformed into a stunning holiday spot for all ages.
The Light the Knights Festival in Uptown Charlotte is an awesome experience during the day or night. Attendees are quickly greeted with "snow" no matter the temperature outside. Sure, the "snow" may only fall for few minutes, but the pictures can make it look like the real thing.
One of the bigger attractions at the festival is a full-sized ice skating rink on the field where people can rent skates and glide along the ice (or fall down a few times if they're still learning). This is the same rink where the Charlotte Checkers will host the Outdoor Classic game against the Rochester Americans on Jan. 13 at 7 p.m.
Another fun activity there is the tubing hill. There are 10 lanes where people can slide down the 150-foot, snow-covered track on a big inner tube.
If you have some last-minute holiday shopping to do, there are over 22 vendors at the festival selling gift options for every family member or friend. The holiday market also features delicious European food, including schnitzel, bratwursts and strudel. Besides the hot cider and hot chocolate sold to keep hands warm, there are also adult beverages available for purchase.
For those who have already gone in years past, there's a new addition: A 300-foot, walkable tunnel of lights that's choreographed to music.
Kids will love Santaland which features a funloving elf and Mrs. Claus. There's even a sleigh with authentic-looking reindeer where pictures can be taken.
