Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a reported sexual assault at a home around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 24. When officers arrived at the scene, the survivor told them the suspect broke into her home before he physically attacked and sexually assaulted her.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and a rape kit was conducted to gather physical evidence. On Monday, CMPD said they haven't found any witnesses or security footage from the area to get a photo of the suspect.
The department has increased its patrols in the area and continues to search for any evidence that can help identify a suspect.
"It's disturbing," Deputy Chief Tonya Arrington said. "It makes me angry."
Arrington went on to say these types of stranger attacks are rare. She said the majority of reported rapes happen when the suspect and victims has a previous association.
The victim told police the suspect ran from her home after the attack. CMPD gave a vague description of the suspect during a news conference on Monday.
"We're here to ask for the public's help," Arrington said. "If anyone saw anything that's suspicious, knows of anything at that particular time, we ask that you call Crime Stoppers."
CMPD encourages anyone with any information about this case to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. The public may also help by contacting lead Detective Harrington directly at 704-336-6052.
