CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A candlelight vigil and balloon release is scheduled for Wednesday night to honor the memory of Jonathan Ferrell on the third anniversary of his death.
The vigil will be held in Marshall Park from 7 to 9pm.
Community leaders and guest speakers will reflect on past and present law enforcement procedures, policies and transparency while engaging with the community.
Ferrell was fatally shot by Officer Randall Kerrick on September 14, 2013. Kerrick was charged with voluntary manslaughter. A judge declared a mistrial in August 2015 after the jury could not reach a verdict.
