CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Marriages are ending and people are looking to stay single.

Back in 1990, fewer than 1 in 10 folks who got divorced were 50 or older. Now it's one in four.
Researchers at Bowling Green State University found within a decade of their divorce, most older Americans remained single. They say women are more likely to stay single after divorce compared to men.
Experts note older women do better than men at living alone, saying they're more satisfied with the number of friends they have, their hobbies, and the time they spend with family.
Researchers couldn't find a big reason why so many folks stay single after a divorce, but write economic resources, social ties, and health aren't big factors.
However, researchers say some folks just don't want to get remarried.
