After years of splurging on home projects, Americans are leaving the house in 2024

After years of being cooped up in their homes, more Americans are eager to get out and see the world.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After years of splurging on home projects during the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of folks have new priorities.

This summer, Americans are opting for vacations over renovations. Let's connect the dots.

After years of investing in their homes, people want to get out and experience the world. Pool manufacturers say they've seen a 15% to 20% dip in people installing backyard pools.

The shift in spending is part of a bigger trend. Earlier this year, Lowe's and Home Depot reported that shoppers pulled back from the fixer-upper frenzy, opting for cheap, DIY projects.

What are they using that money for? Studies show people want to splurge on travel, tickets to sporting events and concerts. They're also using it to dine out more often.

All to leave the house after being cooped up for the last few years.
