How much coffee is too much coffee?

Experts recommend waiting for the caffeine to kick in before pouring your next cup.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — That morning cup of Joe is a staple for many people, and new research suggests there may be a sweet spot for how much a person should be drinking every morning.

‌Too much or not enough coffee can have different effects on your body.

The biggest problem is potentially messing up a good night's sleep.

‌Even though the FDA says adults should not exceed over 400 milligrams a day, experts say coffee drinkers should aim for about 1.5 cups or 150 milligrams.

Overdoing coffee consumption can lead to a bad night of sleep. People who consumed more coffee than usual were found to sleep less.

Experts recommend waiting for the caffeine to kick in before pouring another cup, which equates to about 15 minutes between each cup.

Experts also say kids under the age of 12 should avoid it all together.

And for those who feel caffeine withdrawals on the weekends, try aiming for less than 100 milligrams during the week.
