CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Inflation has raised the price of just about everything, but Dollar Tree, one of America's largest discount stores, isn't seeing a surge of success like you might expect as customers try to stretch their money even further.
Dollar Tree is getting ready to close nearly 1,000 unprofitable stores. According to ConsumerAffairs, the closure comes on the heels of a rough month for the retailer. Net sales dropped by more than 3%.
Experts said the reason could be in the products. Shoppers are trying to save money for essentials like food, so they're skipping out on dollar store items like balloons, greeting cards and craft supplies.
For dollar stores, that's bad news. It's not appealing to loyal customers, and the chains are facing rising costs. It's leading to a decrease in quality.
ConsumerAffairs reports people are noticing staffing shortages at stores everywhere and poor management has led to a decline in overall appeal.
