CHARLOTTE, N.C. — When the COVID 19 pandemic started, passenger air travel pretty much stopped completely and air freight boomed. Now, a few years later, new data shows the tides are turning.
FedEx is now encouraging its cargo pilots to help out passenger flights.
Let's connect the dots.
With the demand for air cargo slowing so much, FedEx is telling pilots to apply for jobs with PSA Airlines. PSA Airlines flies smaller commuter jets for American Airlines and has a hub in Charlotte.
FedEx pilots are eligible for an expedited interview process for a captain's position with PSA Airlines. Business Insider reports, to make the deal even sweeter, PSA Airlines is also offering FedEx pilots a $250,000 sign on bonus. As the Business Insider report further notes, the move comes as FedEx has cut jobs and closed offices as cost-cutting measures.
Now, pilots will have a chance to make more money after many have seen their flying hours drastically reduced because of lower volumes.
