Despite a new law, hotels are still sneaking additional fees onto guests' bill

Junk fees are much easier to spot when booking a hotel or flight but that doesn't mean prices are getting any cheaper.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Junk fees are becoming much easier to spot when booking a flight or a hotel stay, but that doesn't mean prices are getting any cheaper.

The U.S. House passed the No Hidden Fees Act in June, but the actual fees aren't going anywhere.

Despite the new law, a recent Wall Street Journal report found that hotels are still sneaking additional fees onto your bill. However, hotels are now disguising them by making them appear like mandatory fees. For example, paying for parking at suburban hotels.

But what folks may not realize is that airlines and car rental agencies don't have to disclose those hidden fees. That's because airlines sued the Department of Transportation, arguing it doesn't have the authority to make such a rule. For now, the rule won't be enforced until it's settled in court.

Travelers told the Wall Street Journal that even though they're paying the same price as before, it feels like they're saving money because the prices advertised are the prices they're paying.
