CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you're in a relationship, have your guard up on Monday. That's because the date — Dec. 11 — is one of the most common days of the year for couples to call it quits.
It's the most wonderful time of the year but for many couples it might be a blue Christmas.
Let's connect the dots.
Dec. 11 has unofficially been named International "Break Up Day." Experts say this is one of the most common days for couples to give up on their relationships. The question almost everyone is asking is why?
As it turns out, there are several factors at play.
Experts say many couples get anxious about meeting each other's families. Over half of people in relationships say they feel pressured to invite their significant other to family gatherings, adding even more stress to the holiday season.
They're also stressed about buying a gift. Roughly 40% of people see ending their relationship as a way out of getting their significant other a present for the holidays.
But it doesn't have to be a lonely Christmas. If you're serious about your relationship, experts recommend having a serious conversation with your partner about how the holidays may impact your relationship so you don't have to call it quits.
