Israel response to Iran could drive surge in gas prices, experts say

Experts say if Israel responds with its own strikes against Iran, we'll likely see an immediate jump in gas prices.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tensions in the Middle East are high after Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel, and economic experts say it could have a huge impact on millions of Americans.

Gas prices could soon skyrocket thanks to the conflict in Israel.

Right now, the whole world is playing a waiting game with no one totally sure how Israel will react to Iran's attack. If Israel does retaliate, it's likely we'll see an immediate impact on gas prices across the U.S.

Experts say the best-case scenario is for Israel to not respond, keeping conflict to a minimum. This would mean the supply of oil into the U.S. should remain largely unaffected and keep prices the same. Israel's military chief said on Monday that the country will respond to the attack but didn't elaborate on when and how.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been huddling with top officials to discuss a possible response to Iran's attack involving hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles.

Should the conflict escalate, experts say you should be prepared. While you can't necessarily store gas, you can plan for even higher gas prices on a summer road trip.
