Kids spending more time on phones

If the amount of time your kids are spending on their phone is driving you nuts, you're not alone. Experts however, are saying that it may not be such a bad thing.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If the amount of time your kids spend on their phone is driving you nuts, you’re not alone.

But this morning, experts say it might not be such a bad thing.

Kids will go through their entire lives with a smart phone so parents are encouraged to try and make sure they use it responsibly.

Last year, several districts in our area, including Mecklenburg County and Rock Hill, banned phones at school.

But now, health experts aren't so sure this is the best approach. Some pediatricians believe kids should be taught how to use phones in a healthy way.

They can be good tools for connecting and learning, but parents should still try to limit issues like excessive video gaming or "doom scrolling."

It's difficult today to limit kids screen time considering how readily available they are in our everyday lives.

Instead, many experts believe that energy is better spent helping your child use their device in healthy way and to replace enforcing daily screen limit with daily off-screen minimums.
