MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — There's a new way to order liquor in Mecklenburg County. It's all possible thanks to the online ordering that surged during the pandemic.
Mecklenburg County is bringing beverage sales to the 21st century. The county's Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) board is launching the ABC To Go mobile app and ABCtogo.com.
It will allow people to order ahead, and pick up their purchases in stores. All you have to do is enter a ZIP code, and browse the inventory of your closest ABC store.
The idea first came together following the pandemic; thousands used online ordering during that time to avoid going into stores.
It's part of the latest push to modernize a dated system. For years, lawmakers have pushed to try and privatize the sale of liquor to help modernize a system that dates back to the prohibition era.
