CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It's a cliché job hunters have heard for years: It's not about what you know, it's about who you know. But now, experts say it's never been more true.
Networking is making a comeback, with employers saying they’re tired of being knee-deep in online applications.
WCNC Charlotte is always asking "where's the money?" If you need help, reach out to WCNC Charlotte by emailing money@wcnc.com.
Let's connect the dots.
The issue is simple. Most hiring managers are getting way too many responses when they post jobs online.
While there are often lots of great candidates, it’s simply not realistic to look at all of them. Some organizations have reverted to using software to sift through the pile, but applicants have complained that software can shut people out of opportunities.
Now, some hiring managers are turning to what’s worked in the past: Good old-fashioned word of mouth.
To help get their employees on the same page, more companies are offering incentives to employees, like cash rewards, to get recommendations about who to hire.
This means people looking to get a job should feel better about reaching out to people in person or via platforms like LinkedIn, because there could be something in it for both of you.
