CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The way North Carolina measures how its schools perform could soon be changing, and state education leaders say it will help parents get a better understanding of their child's education.
The state's top education leader wants to change how schools are graded. Let's connect the dots.
Right now, North Carolina school rankings really only compare test scores between schools. It doesn't factor in graduation rates, attendance records or information about the teachers working there.
State Superintendent Catherine Truitt is working to change that. Instead of being ranked exclusively by test scores, Truitt is proposing the rankings consider things like discipline and career prep.
The goal is to help make sure students are set up for life after graduation.
Supporters of the current system say it encourages more targeted school improvement but some hope a change would help schools that are struggling to keep up with more affluent schools across the state.
