CHARLOTTE, N.C. — What is the future of self-driving cars? Car companies are continuing to push tech boundaries despite resistance from consumers.
Right now, a self-driving vehicle only works in certain situations. They're mainly operated on highways and a person has to be ready to take control.

A new AAA report shows about 10% of Americans think self-driving cars allow drivers to sleep while a robot takes the wheel. But there are no cars like that available for purchase at this time.
AAA says 68% of people are afraid of automation, up 13% from last year.
The report shows a majority of people do want some automated assistance, like blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
For now, that's as smart as cars can get. But experts are trying to teach consumers about self-driving cars as they become more popular so skepticism declines.
