CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More people are taking sick days at work and now, it's costing businesses millions.
In the last few years, the rise of illnesses like COVID and RSV have forced some folks to take more sick days, but employers aren't sure that's the whole picture.
New payroll data shows Americans are taking more sick days than ever before. Managers and HR execs say this is due in large part to a shift in mentality from younger employees.

And it's a culture shift that's been years in the making. Unlike generations passed, where workers would have come to work sick because they were worried they could seem weak or unreliable, younger workers are bucking the trend, getting their rest to feel better.
And for the first time, people are using sick days for their physical and mental health. It's all to help combat things like stress and anxiety.
