Why Trump's choice for Health and Human Services Secretary is making waves

Trump’s choice for the head of the Department of Health and Human Services is causing some concern within the Food and Drug Administration.

WASHINGTON — As President-elect Donald Trump names his new Cabinet nominees, some of his choices are making waves in and out of Washington.

Trump’s choice for the head of the Department of Health and Human Services is causing some concern within the Food and Drug Administration.

Last week, Trump named Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to head the department.

Kennedy is a known anti-vaccine activist with several controversial views on health. He’s previously suggested he would take on ambitious projects like stripping ultra-processed foods from U.S. diets and cutting fluoride in drinking water. However, some supporters have applauded his take on health.

The move has reportedly prompted some FDA employees to consider leaving the agency. While staff turnover is typical when a new administration comes in, sources tell NBC News it could accelerate ahead of Trump’s second term.

Congress still has to confirm Kennedy’s appointment.
