CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This past weekend saw a record number of travelers. And if you feel like you’ve been hearing that sentence a lot lately, you’re not wrong.
There are actually a lot of reasons why more people are traveling now than ever before. Let's connect the dots.
One reason is cheaper airfares. Airfares are down roughly 6% from this time last year.
Even though airfares are still higher than before the pandemic, they are much lower than what we’ve seen over the last few years.
But there's another reason for the spike in travel. Travel analysts say more people simply want to travel.
A survey from Allianz Partners finds more than 60% of Americans plan to travel 100 miles or more away from their homes this summer.
You might also notice more young people traveling this summer. That’s because Gen-Z and younger millennials are a driving force behind the surge, with folks born after 1995 the most likely to travel of any demographic.
