CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Parents of high school seniors are in the phase of figuring out what comes next and, for a lot of kids, college is the best option.
If they haven't applied yet, this could be the week to do it.
Colleges across North Carolina are waiving application fees this week. And deadlines to apply to college for next year are quickly approaching.
In addition to preparing essays, transcripts and letters of recommendations, students often also have to pay an application fee. And those costs can add up.
A student could end up paying upwards of $100 for each school they apply too.
But before parents and students start applying, there are several other enrollment steps.
College hopefuls first have to prove they're a North Carolina resident to be considered for in-state tuition. Many also need to complete the federal aid application called FAFSA.
And if you get all of that done before the end of the week, you can apply to schools across North Carolina for free.
