YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A highland cow was safely captured Thursday in York County, S.C., three weeks after it first escaped an area farm, according to posts by her owner on social media.
Connie and Isla, both Scottish Highland cattle, arrived on the farm in mid-August, according to a post on Facebook. Five hours later, the two broke out of their enclosure and "unfortunately headed into town."
Cody Cooper, the owner of the cattle, wrote on August 22 that the animals were "chased all over town and the day ended with Isla’s tragic death due to heat exhaustion and possible heart attack."
In a separate post, Cooper wrote that he has spend the last three weeks searching for Connie using trail cameras, drones, and tracking dogs. Earlier this week, Connie found a section of the forest to settle in, according to Cooper. He was able to use a drone to track her movements each evening.
Early Thursday morning, Cooper and a hired professional wrangler went in to recapture Connie. After a brief chase, the wrangler "managed to safely rope her and tie her up."
Connie will spend the next few days in a barn before she is slowly transitioned into a corral, and eventually a pasture.
Cooper says he hopes to get Connie a new friend very soon.
