CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Interstate 77 near Remount Road was backed up for miles following a police chase out of Mooresville and a crash in the southbound lanes on Sunday morning, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Mooresville Police Department.

WCNC Charlotte's crew on the scene saw multiple police cars blocking off traffic near mile marker 8 around 11:30 a.m. One police cruiser appeared to have been involved in a collision with at least one civilian car.

Medic said it did not respond to a crash at that location.

In the same area on I-77, the Mooresville Police Department confirmed officers had chased and stopped a suspected stolen car.

Around 10:20 a.m. Mooresville officers had received an Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert about a stolen car travelling on Highway 150. They located the car near Bluefield Road and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle fled.

The chase ended near Remount Road on I-77 in Charlotte.

One suspect ran from a stopped vehicle on foot and was quickly arrested near Exit 9, Mooresville police said. Police also arrested a second suspect in connection with the chase.

Charges and additional information will be released, police said.

WCNC Charlotte reached out to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for more information.
