Deadly crash reported in southwest Charlotte

So far, details about what happened weren't immediately available.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a crash that unfolded late Wednesday evening was deadly, and asked drivers to temporarily avoid the area.

CMPD said it happened some time before 9 p.m. along Old Pineville Road near Archdale Drive. The department didn't offer further details. However, officers asked drivers to seek alternate routes and avoid the area as the investigation got underway.

Medic confirmed one person was killed in the incident.

A WCNC Charlotte photojournalist captured video of the scene, showing police investigating a stretch of the roadway with crime scene tape set up.
