Chester County house fire leaves child dead

The fire happened at a home on 2nd Street in Chester.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — SLED investigators are looking into a house fire that left one child dead in Chester on Monday.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday, the Chester Fire Department responded to a call about a house fire on 2nd Street in Chester.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, the house was partially on fire and neighbors told the firefighters that there was still someone inside the house.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, a child was found dead inside the house.

The home is now uninhabitable and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Chester Fire Department is reminding everyone to ensure that smoke alarms are properly working and to have an escape plan in case of a fire.
